Photos, Photos Everywhere - Other

Photos get people excited. They're a big deal to us, which is why they take a lead role in so many things we do. We make decisions based on them. We reminisce over them. We document with them. We even make photo gifts out of them. In fact, the list of things we use them for in almost endless. So for no particular reason, we've popped a few down in writing, just to show you what we mean.

FacebookLet's be honest, what would Facebook be without the photos? Half the fun of logging on every day is to flick through the latest snaps of a 'friend' you've not seen in a decade. Then you've got the long weekend in Madrid, So n' So's new baby and a lot of pointless stuff taken at a barbecue last summer. And last but not least, there are always plenty of unofficial wedding pics.

WeddingsSpeaking of weddings, is there ever an occasion that demands a set of fantastic photos more than this? It's doubtful. So we end up spending hours trawling the 'net handpicking the photographer for the big day. We look at the price, their style and what you get thrown in with the deal. Then, and only then, do we make a decision on who'll be providing us with one of the most significant set of personalised photos we'll ever purchase.

DocumentationAnd that brings us on nicely to documentation in the broader sense. We document almost anything with photos. We document our holidays, our birthdays and any number of other happy events. But we also use it to help us out. What's the first thing we do if we're in a twang with another car? Take a photo? What do we do if we get an unfair parking ticket? Take a photo. And what do we do if we've got a grievance with the landlord? Yep, take a photo. You see where we're going.

SurveillanceWe're told Big Brother's watching. And we can well believe it. Okay, so Will Smith's Enemy of the State might've been a bit farfetched, but there's no doubt we're caught on camera more than we know. Then you've got satellites up in space, collecting images of neighbouring solar systems, stars and planets. We're learning incredible new facts every day, with photos more than playing their part.

ShoppingWe all know online shopping is big business. But have you ever bought something this way without first seeing a photo? Probably not. A picture paints a thousand words and all that. And it really doesn't matter what we're after - it could be a house or a car, or something as everyday as a new T-shirt. Either way, the photo allows us to make an informed decision, whether we're buying the T or test driving the car.

Little wonder then, that with photos everywhere we turn, photo gifts are an increasingly popular present. Personalised photo gifts, in particular, always go down a storm, offering everything from bone china frames and leatherette albums, to personalised pop art and canvases.
